KOMPAS.com – In this world there is a place that has a mysterious story and a scary past. Even the scary place is claimed to be a cursed place inhabited by ghosts.

Although it sounds scary, not a few travelers visit the place to prove if something strange happened.

1. Roanoke Island, North Carolina

This story takes place in 1587, starting with a group of Englishmen who settled and built a new colony led by Captain John White.

White returned to England to buy supplies and left his family there.

Returning from England, he found the place in a state of disrepair and no trace of his family or any of the other colonies.

Then he found a carving on the tree that said “Croatoan.” To this day, it is not known what it means. In fact, visitors claim the island is haunted.

However, at that time, people were mining excessively, causing damage to the environment.

The destruction of this environment angered the gods, who cursed the inhabitants and their descendants in poverty and misery forever.

In the 12th century, the castle became the seat of the dangerous Cathars, revered by Christians. It was later declared a heresy (heretic) by the Catholic Church.

So the Pope asked France for help in expelling members of the sect. After a 10 month siege of the castle, 200 Cathars died in a bonfire and they cursed the place.

4. Poveglia, Italy

The island, dubbed the island of death, is located in Venice. In the past, this island was inhabited by hundreds of heads of families who were so prosperous.

But things have changed, when there was the spread of infectious diseases and the bubonic plague that claimed many lives.

Later, Poveglia turned into a gathering place for plague sufferers and madmen.

So for the sake of security in 1968 the place was abandoned, and until now there are no inhabitants, it is called “the most haunted place in Europe.”

Then in 2014 the island was sold to a businessman named Luigi Brognaro, but for no apparent reason he wanted to return the island.

5. Timbuktu, Northern Mali

In 2012, there was an armed conflict involving northern and southern Mali.

These armed forces attack Timbuktu, and destroy the graves of the most respected people in Timbuktu. The troops damaged and blew up the door at the Sidi Yahya Mosque.

Legend has it that when the 600 year old door opens, it signifies the end of the world. Since then, the locals have shown chaos.

Local fortune tellers claim the city has lived under a curse for hundreds of years since the time of the salt trade (salt trade), when it was rumored that the streets were paved with gold.

Then he realized that there was no one in the village, oddly enough to find the fireplace still burning, an abundant supply of food and clothing. The villagers seemed to just disappear.

Even more terrifying, when the cemetery in the village was opened it was empty.

When in the early 1800’s there was a farming family named Bell who was plagued by an evil spirit, people around believed that the evil spirit was the sorceress Bell.

Even now, local people still feel haunted by this spirit.

8. Eilean Mor, Outer Hebrides

This small island off the coast of Scotland has been cursed since late December 1900, when three men manning the lighthouse mysteriously disappeared and left nothing behind.

According to Historic UK, the incident was first recognized when a ship passed through the lighthouse on the 15th and noticed that the lights were not on.

Until finally the investigation ship found no sign of the men.

9. Hoer Verde, Brazil

In 1923 political unrest hit Brazil, so that more than 600 residents of the village of Hoer Verde disappeared.

This happened when the Soviet Union collapsed, and the Zapadnaya Lista was abandoned along with the nuclear submarine.

The rusty ship was carrying radioactive fuel 30 times more powerful than the Chernobyl explosion.

So that this city leaves buildings empty and there are only a few residents who survived by this explosion.

According to historians, the tomb of Timur (the Turkic/Mongol conqueror) is also where he massacred 1 percent of the world’s population in 1360.

The inscription on his grave reads, “When I rise from the dead, the world will tremble”.

Known as the scream city because this Ghorid region was captured in the 12th century by a group of Mongols.

This war was led by Genghis Khan who was the ruler of the Mongols. He carried out this raid because Jalaluddin the ruler of Afghanistan fought and killed Khan’s favorite son.

At first, the city was under the auspices of Genghis Khan, but was sold by the daughter of Jalaludin, who, according to legend, opened the secret entrance to the castle, hoping for a reward.
